Leatherhead competition - Racers 1st!!, Raiders 1st!! Full report:-

It didn't help that Sunday the clocks went forward and so we lost an hours sleep, plus we had to be in Leatherhead by 08:30, or in my case - much much earlier!

Raiders - Summer and Diana, Muttley and Andy, Ruby and Shaun, Milly and Jade, Toby and Michael.
For the Raiders first race, against the Lightening Chasers, it was a straight forward 3 wins to 0, with a best time of 20.41 seconds.
For the second race, against Four Paws Flying, we won 3 heats to 1 with Toby and Michael running their first Open competition and doing great work. Best time of 20.37 seconds
In the afternoon, for the third race, against the Buccaneers, we won all 3 heats with Toby playing a great role in the last 2. Best time of 20.52 seconds
For the final decider race against the Suffering Jets, who were level pegging with us, we blew them into touch with 3 straight forward heat wins and with a best time of 20.41

Total comp points - 4 , to take 1st place for the Raiders in Div 5!

Racers - Tosca and Lily, Sassy and Rich, Benji and Jordan, Dolly and Ness
Very similar story to the Raiders
First race, against the Ramsden Reelers, 3 heats wins to their 1. Best time of 20.44 seconds
Second race, against the Barkshire Bambinos, 3 heats wins to 0. Best time of 19.97 seconds
Third race, against Aces Spades, 3 heats wins to 0. Best time of 19.91 seconds
Fourth race, against the Blazin Aces, 3 heat wins to their 1. Best time of 19.98 seconds. Some heart stopping moments in the final few heats and we had some faults where we had to run a dog again - but then so did the Blazin Aces. Also Benji's 4.2 second runs - though fantastically fast and definitely contributed to our success, had some of the closest changeovers we have yet done!

Total comp points - 4 , to take 1st place for the Racers in Div 4!

It was nice to crack the 20 second barrier for the first time this year and both of our teams are now very close in terms of seed time -  19.91 and 20.37

A quick trip to a local pub after our racing and before the prize giving at the end, to enjoy a pint or a glass of wine, was most welcome  :-))

Mention in Despatches:
Lily, who is 13 years old, for running my Tosca for the first time, as start dog, and Lily's very first competition. Some cracking starts helped secure our place. Well done Lily!
Jade, who is 12, for running my Milly for the first time as anchor dog. Milly is quite a handful and she will pull your arms out of their sockets! Well done Jade!
Toby and Michael - running in their first Open competition and doing just great!
Kirsty - for doing box loading for us.

Flyball Committee Nominations

A few of you asked if you know the nominees ... the answer is yes !... someone did a great photo montage of the nominees... but interestingly the montage has now disappeared from Facebook and the BFA website.

No worries.. where there is a will there is a way :-)

If you want any information about the nominees you are more than welcome to talk to me (Andy) or Chris... interestingly Chris and I voted for at least 3 of the same people (not compared notes... just general chatting) so we must be on the same wave length !

There are a few missing (Hazel Brown and Jo Crosswell) but you would not know these nominees unless you went to the BFA Champs and have the memory of an Elephant ! :-)

Anyway... pictures of nominees below (in no particular order !):

Tony Cain

Sharon Allcorn

Ray Lewis

Nigel Rose

Jason Baker (in the Yellow top)

Tony Hodge

Sam Bawden

RIP Murphy

Murphy

In loving memory of dear Murphy who died peacefully on Friday 18th March 2011.

mu

(Murphy in action at Flyball)

After being diagnosed with Lymphoma Feb 2010, Murphy received regular doses of chemo to keep it in remission.  He responded very well to his treatment but unfortunately his condition came back.

Murphy will be sadly missed by us.  May he now rest in peace, eat plenty of doggie biscuits, go for lots of long walks, chase balls and play Flyball in doggie heaven.

Results - Leatherhead Competiton 26th Feb

Congratulations to the Rooky Raiders team who came 1st (again!!) today at the Leatherhead Flyball comp. Diana with Summer, Andy with Muttley, Shaun with Ruby, Suzie (heavily pregnant) with Bruiser, and me with Milly. We won all our races and had some close moments of dogs, times and finishes. The Raiders came away with a best time of 21.53 seconds

Well done the Rooky Racers also who overcame all the trials and tribulations to come 4th. Jade with Tosca, Nigel with Alfie, Rich with Sassy, Ness with Dolly. It kinda went pear-shaped in the only race and 3 heats where we were competing against ourselves with an empty competitors lane, but it provided the audience with some entertainment and we all laughed about it afterwards. The Racers came away with a best time of 20.38 seconds

The weather was not kind, and the troop from the car park to the hall was muddy and wet.

Lets hoping for better weather and better results for all in the March 27th comp at the same venue.
